Residents of Tifton gathered in front of U.S. Rep. Austin Scott’s office to protest his silence and support of former President Donald Trump’s policies. The demonstrators criticized Scott for not addressing their concerns and for backing policies that they believe harm South Georgians, including cuts to government programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.
Led by local activists such as Vince Watkins and Imoni Smith, the protesters held signs and chanted slogans like “Tax the rich” and “Protect our veterans.” They called for Scott to hold a town hall meeting to address their grievances, questioning whether he had ever engaged directly with his constituents.
Watkins, a former candidate for Georgia’s 8th Congressional District, criticized Scott’s representation, while Smith vowed continued protests until Scott acknowledges and addresses their concerns. The demonstration ended with a sign left on Scott’s office door, urging him to protect key social programs.
